Protect your investment in your equipment. You could destroy your LCD. Hear is some useful information that you may or may not use. First of all, a monitor screen should not be touched. Try to enforce a no hands touching policy. Our hands can have salt, acid, oils, or left over candy bar on them. Also just the heat or pressure of the hand may effect the coating on the outside of a CRT as well as well as the inside of an LCD monitor. As time goes on people will be using more and more LCD type monitors. Also as the cost comes down and the technology changes plasma will come into vogue. The CRT type of screen is glass but some may have a special coating on the outside to cut glare and reduce reflections. The coating could be scratched or the wrong cleaner might damage the surface. "CANNED AIR", I believe is a "must have" item. You can buy this at most electronic stores. Like- BEST BUY, CIRCUIT CITY, OFFICE DEPOT, ETC, ETC. Just make sure it can be used on computers. Before cleaning a monitor with a cloth cleaner do a dusting of the screen with the canned air. It will get rid of any particles that might scratch the screen. Do not hold the can of air too close to the screen if the propellant in the can makes the air cold. Remember that the tube type (CRT) monitor has a glass screen but be cautious because it still could have a glare reducing film on the outside. LCD screens are not glass. They are a soft film that can be scrathed and anything sharp or the wrong cleaner can do damage. DO NOT use just any old cleaning solution. Don't use anything with ammonia in it like some window cleaners. Also do not use ethyl alcohol, acetone, or soap. What can be used? Vinegar(1part) to (2parts water) Also isopropyl alcohol = 1part to 1 part water. The common name is rubbing alcohol. You can get it in 90 per cent pure. NOTE: It would be best to use pure water.Tap water has clorine and floride in it. MAKE SURE the monitor is turned off first and you pulled the power plug.You don't need to pull the cable. Use a soft cotton cloth like an old t-shirt or a piece of old flannel. DO NOT use paper towels because they could scratch the screen. Allways apply the solution to the cloth and not to the part youre going to clean. Make sure the cloth can not drip any solution. Never use plain water to clean a screen. NOTE--LAPTOPS have LCD screens.
